Board Briefs: June 25, 2024
Here are a few highlights from the June 25 board meeting (the agenda packet is available):
Board hears report on local indicators on state accountability dashboard
Staff provided a report on San Juan Unified’s measurement of progress for the local indicators related to the state accountability dashboard. Results from local measures were presented for the following priorities:

Priority Area 1: Basic Services - Met performance level

Priority Area 2: State Standards - Met performance level

Priority Area 3: Parent Engagement - Met performance level

Priority Area 6: School Climate - Met performance level

Priority Area 7: Broad Course of Study - Met performance level
The 2024 State Dashboard, expected to be released in November 2024, will include the local measures.
Board approves updated boundaries for five middle schools
The board adopted a resolution adjusting the attendance boundaries for Arden Middle School, Arcade Middle School, Katherine Johnson Middle School, Starr King K-8 and Winston Churchill Middle School, selecting map no. 3 for the new middle school boundaries within the western region of the district. The board also approved a notice of exemption regarding the boundary change as provided for by the California Environmental Quality Act.
Board approves revisions to dress and grooming board policy
The board approved revisions to the district’s dress and grooming board policy and the retirement of the school uniforms board policy, creating a uniform dress code districtwide. Additional information on the district-wide student dress code will be shared with families, students and staff in the coming months.

The board approved the 2024-27 Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), as well as the 2024-27 LCAP for Choices Charter School.

The board heard an update on the district’s Safe Schools program.

The board approved the proposed name change for Encina Preparatory High School to Encina High School.
